Across my acquisition areas, I seek projects that engage a wide readership through a combination of skilled storytelling and intensive research. I enjoy working with writers at every stage of their project, particularly making sure authors feel supported and informed throughout their publishing experience.

Literary nonfiction contains a multitude of genres and forms, and I’m open to it all – the essay, literary journalism, the lyric essay, memoir, and new creations that don’t easily fit a definition. Most centrally, a manuscript should illuminate, from an engaged and thoughtful perspective, a larger question or concept about what it means to be alive today. I’m also looking for projects that demonstrate a unique voice and devotion to language.

Our food studies list includes a range of disciplines and geographies. While the titles often relate to issues of justice, migration, and the environment, they also touch on gender and sexuality, religion, media, health and medicine, and more. I’m especially interested in the way food and foodways evolve over time and with shifting geographies—melding new approaches with the old to create entirely unique approaches, creations, and communities.

In regional trade, my interests include foodways and cookbooks, gardening, horticulture, and natural history, as well as books about pressing contemporary concerns in southern life.

I worked in higher education, teaching creative writing, literature, and composition, before joining the Press in 2017. I have an MFA in poetry from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as an MFA in nonfiction from the Rainier Writing Workshop. My essays have appeared in The Georgia Review, Gettysburg Review, Fourth Genre, River Teeth, and elsewhere. Honors include a Pushcart Prize and Notable distinctions in Best American Essays.
