About the Author

Jeffrey J. Crow is the former deputy director of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History. He earned a Ph.D. from Duke University and is former administrator of the Historical Publications Section of the Office of Archives and History. He is author or editor of more than ten books on a variety of topics in North Carolina history.
