A History of the "National Intelligencer"

During the first half of the nineteenth century, the aristocrat of Washington, D.C., journalism was the <3>National Intelligencer<1>. It served important educational and policy-making functions in relation to the federal government from the time it was born to fight for the cause of Thomas Jefferson's liberalism until it died espousing a conservatism that had no party to support it.
