Popular Charlotte-area farm tour is May 17 and 18

The sixth annual Know Your Farms tour takes places in the greater Charlotte area the weekend of May 17 and 18, from noon to 6 p.m. It’s a great way to get out of the city, breath some country air, and support your local farmers.

The tour takes visitors to 15 farms in five counties, featuring a diversity of local farms, including fruit and vegetable growers, livestock producers, dairy farms, and even an alpaca farm (Happy Hills)! And you know how much I love alpacas! In addition, many farms will be offering fun activities unique to the tour, such as hayrides, petting zoos, and cooking demonstrations. Several are certified organic and most follow organic growing practices. Details about each farm on the route can be found here.

The tour is self-guided, and farms are located in clusters all around the Charlotte region for easy touring. To take the tour, purchase a ticket online or pay at the first farm. The tour cost is $25 in advance per vehicle. Entrance tickets may also be purchased on tour days at every tour farm for $30. Current and retired military get a free pass with ID.

So load up your vehicle with friends and family, pack cash and a cooler for all the farm-fresh goodies you’ll want to take home, and use the map to plot your course! Proceeds go to the work of the non-profit Know Your Farms Tour to continue support for Charlotte-area farms.
