Chicken Keeping 101 in Raleigh on Oct. 30, 31, and Nov. 1

Bob Davis at the 2008 Tour de Coop

Veteran chicken-keeper Bob Davis will give his popular Chicken Keeping 101 presentation several times in Raleigh, and for the low, low price of $5. Bob’s home in Five Points is a charter stop on the annual Hen-side the Beltline Tour d’ Coop in Raleigh, where chicken keepers invite the public into their backyards to see what’s hen-side. The sixth annual tour will be held May 21. I’m egging you on to save the date.

Bob’s talk lasts about two hours, including a Q&A, and will be given on Oct. 30 at 10 a.m., Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. and Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at NC State University. Details are here. Topics covered include where to get birds from, how to house them, feed them, and keep them healthy.

Chickens in Bob's coop. Bob, what breeds are these?

For more things chicken,  here’s an interview with Bob on WUNC’s “The State of Things” from 2009, and a great photo slide show taken the same year by News & Observer photographer Juli Leonard.

Happy clucking!
